WANA (May 12) – Senior Iranian and Egyptian diplomats have discussed indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, as well as Cairo’s ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty held a phone conversation to exchange views on regional developments and the latest round of nuclear negotiations.

During the call, Araghchi briefed Abdelatty on the fourth round of indirect nuclear talks with the United States held recently in Muscat, Oman.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s support for the continuation of nuclear dialogue and provided an update on Egypt’s mediation efforts—alongside other international actors—to help restore a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Both sides emphasized the urgent need for an immediate halt to Israeli attacks on Gaza and condemned the regime’s continued aggression and occupation in Lebanon and Syria. They also reviewed the latest developments in bilateral relations between Tehran and Cairo.

Iran and the United States concluded their fourth round of indirect negotiations in Muscat on Sunday. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi described the latest discussions as more direct and serious compared to previous rounds.

The first round of these indirect negotiations between Iran and the U.S., mediated by Oman, was held on April 12 in Muscat, and the second round of talks took place in Rome on Saturday, April 19, again with Oman as the intermediary. The third round of talks, which took place on Saturday, April 26, was also in Oman.
